Ode to a Lonely Wings fan

John Bucigross: Sharks in seven.

Congratulations to Abel to Yzerman for finding our little blog out here in beautiful California. We welcome you with open arms but a word of caution: this eleven year old girl has Barbies with playoff beards, nasty hip checks and a few comments of her own.

Scott Burnside: Sharks in seven.

As you know, California is the land of fun and sun, and although we don’t have as much of a storied hockey history as your legendary Red Wings, Sharks fans do have the foresight to recognize that our time is now and the Red Wings are only treading water in our tank.

Linda Cohn: Sharks in six.

Like Mama Cass, the Red Wings love a good choke job. They’ve been here before. Here is how I would break down a typical Red Wing hockey season formula. Number one seed + Home Ice = Early Exit. Let’s face it, the boys will be doing Chris Chelios a favor. The prescription for his osteoporosis meds runs out in early May.

E.J. Hradek: Sharks in six

This is not a good match up for Detroit. Your so called “deepest D in the league” has looked really sharp this year against San Jose, allowing eighteen goals to them this season. Just in case you forgot, and I doubt you have, here were the scores.

Thursday, October 19th Sharks 5 Red Wings 1
Wednesday, October 25th Sharks 1 Red Wings 2
Saturday, December 2nd Sharks 3 Red Wings 2
Thursday, January 4th Sharks 9 Red Wings 4

Barry Melrose: Sharks in six

Sorry. I did watch the Red Wings/Flames series. I had some extra time because, you see, my team won their playoff series in five games.

David Amber: Sharks in seven

The Sharks are deep, deeper than Scottie Bowman’s bowl at all you can eat pasta bar. Bertuzzi is already making plans for Gretzkyland next season. Hasek has booked his ticket for the next flight back to Retireslovakia. The Sharks are your biggest nightmare and in two weeks, you and your readers will hang up your octopi and ponder one of life’s great questions: Will the Lions win four games this year?

SHARKS IN SIX!

Thanks (on behalf of dwsharks). I added you to our blogroll. I'm glad we can all unite in our hatred of the Red Wings.

I hate to rub it in, but as well-intended as it was, your Nashville pick didn't work out too well. Glad to have you aboard.

How many Cups for the Sharks since they entered the league?

How many Cups for the Wings since they entered the league?

Oh, right. That's basically all that matters. You're still down by 2 even if you win it this year.

And yes, you had oh-so-much time to watch the Wings/Flames since the Sharks took all of one less game.

"Sharks fans do have the foresight to recognize that our time is now"

Actually, if you had any foresight (earned from having hockey experience) you'd realize you have to walk before you can run. You have a bunch of players that have no idea what it takes to win the Stanley Cup. The Wings were in that position in the early 90s and learned it the hard way. Your players will also learn it the hard way, before having success.

The fans may have foresight--even the players may have foresight.

The puck doesn't care, however, so it doesn't matter who thinks they should win. Detroit knows how to win these games. The Sharks are still learning.

hockey rules! so do the sharks! yay!

This whole "knows how to win" thing is crap. Works great is hindsight, but is a really shitty predictor. Especially now with the salary cap, increasing player movement.

You can call last years tourney an outlier, but it happened the year before the lockout as well. There are plenty of series every year where "teams that know how to win" get bounced early. Dallas this year. Detroit last year.

In case you became a hockey fan last week, the Wings have a few more years in the league than the Sharks.

The last refuge of someone with no ideas- bring up useless facts.

This whole arguement of "How many Cups have you won" is such bogus trash. It is a crutch. A fallback line that scared fans come crawling back to when they have no other point to make. We are talking about THIS YEAR. Not 2002 or 1954 or 1936. Nobody cares.

So, let's keep the debate in the present, okay?

"There are plenty of series every year where "teams that know how to win" get bounced early."

You've got it backwards. How many times has a team that doesn't have previous Cup experience won the Stanley Cup?

"In case you became a hockey fan last week, the Wings have a few more years in the league than the Sharks.

LOL

I'll re-state the questions so you'll get it this time.

How many Cups does San Jose have since they entered the league?

How many Cups does Detroit have since San Jose entered the league?

Make sense now?

"We are talking about THIS YEAR. Not 2002 or 1954 or 1936. Nobody cares."

Experience is important. Everyone that has any knows this.

Paul is like a broken John Tesh record. Repeating the same garbage over and over and over again until somebody listens.

Let ME tell you again Paul....since this is my blog and you are in my house, sailor. The Sharks have plenty of playoff experience. This core has been together for several years and has won four playoff series in the last four years, unlike the Wings core who have won two playoff series in that time. Leave the Cup out of this, this is not the same team buddy. You are missing Stevie Y, Hull, Federov and Robitalle.

Your turn.

I should change what I say? Why? I'm right.

"Let ME tell you again Paul....since this is my blog and you are in my house, sailor."

No thanks, I don't want to play your weird California "sailor" games.

"The Sharks have plenty of playoff experience. This core has been together for several years and has won four playoff series in the last four years, unlike the Wings core who have won two playoff series in that time."

LMFAO

The Wings core has won STANLEY CUPS together.

"Leave the Cup out of this"

Figures you'd want to dismiss the most important facts. What is it, 33 or 34 Cup rings in the Wings' dressing room? I forget.

"this is not the same team buddy. You are missing Stevie Y, Hull, Federov and Robitalle."

Who is Federov? Oh, you mean Fedorov. Anyway, after they lost those players it was predicted they wouldn't make the playoffs. Then they nearly won the Pres trophy. Then it was predicted Calgary would push them around. Did that happen?

Even Wilson knows experience is important. It's why they got Guerin.

If i were a wings fan...

First I would wonder what that empty feeling in my tummy was.. oh right I wouldn't have a soul, but The wings fans I've seen here are acting like this is the Sharks first trip to the playoffs.

The Sharks have been on the doorstep for quite a while. They have mnade the conference finals at least once (maybe twice) and have vanquished good teams like the Avs and Star in the past (oh and the Red Wings too).

If any team is the "team who has been knocking on the door for a while and id primed for a breakthrough" it's the Sharks.

And since I'm an Avs fan... go Sharks
